School Counseling
Hello! My name is Mrs. Wilson, and I am the school counselor at North Clinton Elementary. As a school counselor, I assist students in understanding, managing, accepting, and expressing their emotions, while also enhancing self-awareness and building self-esteem. I also help students to develop coping skills, improve their relationships with others, manage stress and anxiety, set goals, and make positive behavioral choices.
Our school counseling program includes individual and small-group counseling. All students also have the opportunity to attend guidance classes weekly with Mrs. Patterson, another licensed school counselor. Individual counseling helps students learn skills and strategies to help with issues that they may be struggling with. I am available daily for students who may need extra support throughout the day. Individual counseling needs may include:
Feelings/ emotions
Social skills
Coping skills
Study skills
Behavioral support
Friendships
Anxiety and Stress
Conflict resolution skills
Small groups provide not only the opportunity for additional learning experiences, but also a time of sharing and a time of growing together with fellow students. Small groups give students a chance to belong, a chance to express themselves, and a chance to benefit from the support of group members. The groups that are currently being offered will include the following topics:
Dealing With Feelings: providing tools that help students learn how to identify and appropriately express their emotions.
Friendship Connection: helping students to identify the characteristics of a good friend, and how to proactively make and keep friends.
School Appropriate Behavior and Making Good Choices: providing students with the opportunity to practice necessary social skills to aid in success at school, such as listening skills, body language, turn-taking, peer relationships, etc.
Social Skills: working with students to learn skills such as self-awareness, self-control, and following directions.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call me at the school or send me an email:
Sincerely,
Caroline Tobler Wilson
